The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is an ubiquitous protected area in Quintana Roo. This natural paradise is located on the Caribbean coast was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1987.
In maya “Sian Ka’an” which means “place where the sky is born”, this reserve is also called “Gate of Heaven”. It has an area of 528,147 hectares and is located in the municipalities of Tulum and Felipe Carillo Puerto. Area is home to incredible biodiversity: red, black, white and gray mangroves where many marine and terrestrial species live.
